We are establishing large听Sadaqah Jariyah听desalination plants at UNRWA shelter schools that are housing displaced families across Gaza due to the ongoing devastating conflict. Each large water project includes digging a large groundwater well, installing a听water desalination plant听to purify underground dirty and salty (brackish) water, assembling multiple water storage tanks, and installing solar panels. This water project will provide safe drinking water to 10,000 people every day. Each person will receive 10 litres of water (5 litres of fresh clean drinking water and five litres of water for domestic daily use).

Since October 2023, over 700 groundwater wells that 90% of the population depend upon have been destroyed. The UN estimates that the average Gazan lives on only 3 litres of water per day, well below the humanitarian Sphere standards of 7.5 to 15 litres. This has sadly resulted in the outbreak of many severe waterborne diseases such as Hepatitis A, diarrhoea and various skin diseases.

Therefore, there is a desperate need to provide fresh clean water to prevent the outbreak of serious waterborne and skin diseases among displaced people.
